THE NSC
will provide the main base for athletics action at next year's NatWest Island Games, while competitors in the half-marathon will get a chance to see a little more of the Isle of Man.

Starting and finishing at the NSC, the route will lead up to Groudle via Bray Hill and then returns to Douglas along the coast road.
A total of 19 islands are expected to contest the numerous athletics events, for which two competitors are permitted per nation per discipline - three for the half-marathon. There is also a team medal to be contested in the half-marathon, claimed by the Isle of Man in Gotland.
it is thought that Prince Edward Island will be entering the sport for the first time next year.

Both male and female track and field athletes will be competing in the following events : 100 metres; 200m; 400m; 800m; 1,500m; 5,000m; 10,000m; 400m hurdles; 4 x 100m; and 4 x 400m relays; pole vault; high jump; long jump; triple jump; shot putt; discus; javelin; hammer and steeplechase.
In addition there will be a 5,000 metre track walk for women, while their male counterparts will tackle 10,000m.
Female athletes will be contesting the 100 metres hurdles but men will be completing the same event over a distance of 110 metres.

The Isle of Man's Hannah Riley scored the best individual result for the team in Gotland last year, claiming the gold in the women's 400 metre hurdles final.
Chris Quine, Kevin Furlong and Jackie Ashman all took silver on the track and Janet Corlett finished second in the women's hammer throwing event.
There were also six bronze finishes, including that of Martin Aram, one of the Island's best medal hopes for next year, in the high jump.

The NSC's six lane track should be in top competition following repair work carried out in September and the only other preparation needed for next July's athletics event, which will run from Sunday through to Friday of competition week, is the purchase of barriers for the women's steeplechase event.
