The
Isle of Man is getting plenty of practice in staging International and
National events in time for next year's Games.
In June, the Isle of Man played host to an English Schools International
Table Tennis championship. As well as the home nations of England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Island, a team from Iceland also participated
in the event.
The event also provided the opportunity to try out some of the new
equipment which has been purchased for the Games in 2001. 10 new
tables ( in blue ) have been bought for next year's competition.
In
May this year the Isle of Man played host to the InterServices Volleyball
Tournament. Teams from the Army, Royal Air Force, the Navy, and the
Fire Service descended on the Isle of Man for a weekend of competition.
Again, the event provided the opportunity to try out some of the new
equipment which has been purchased for the Games and for some of next year's
" International " Volleyball officials to get aquainted with the
facilities which we will be using to stage the event.
The competition was marred by a serious knee injury of one of the lady
competitors. But within 3 hours she was undergoing corrective surgery
in Nobles Hospital to repair her damaged knee ligaments!
