Manx Telecom announces Island Games
Sailing Sponsorship

Manx Telecom has announced a £20,000 sponsorship of the sailing events in the Island Games, which will be used towards the purchase of 20 brand new International Laser Class dinghies. This will give the Isle of Man the most prestigious Island Games sailing event so far, as it will be the first time that every competitor in teh event has been supplied with a brand new boat. After the Island Games are over, there are plans to use the boats to train talented young sailors on the Island for future international competitions.

Peter Whipp, Co-ordinator for Sailing at the Island Games, will himself be competing at the Games, and has been captain of the Island sailing team in three previous Island Games. He commented, " This very kind sponsorship from Manx Telecom has made my dream of competing at the Island Games in identical brand new boats a reality. It sets a completely new standard which is similar to that expected at the Olympic Games. As a bonus, the boats will give local young sailors a unique opportunity to train for future Games, and should transform the sport on the Island for years to come."
