Shoprite
Sponsorship of the 2001 NatWest Island Games
As the Isle of Man's leading local supermarket, Shoprite
is delighted to be able to support the 2001 Island Games, and to
wish the event a warm welcome back to the Island for the first time
since the Games were launched here some 15 years ago.
Cycling has always been a major part of the local sporting calendar,
and as joint sponsor with local advocates Dickinson and Cruickshank,
we are pleased to report that we have some high hopes for gold in
this year's Games.
Our own " Cycle for Life " event, which is held annually,
is our way of supporting this sport, while raising money for a local
cause at the same time. Last Autumn's " Cycle for Life ",
which we organised in conjunction with our cycle relay race around
the TT course, raised several thousand pounds for the Special Olympics
squad.
Also, Mike O' Hare, the former organiser of Manx International Cycle
Week, has been with Shoprite since the beginning in 1972. So the
Games time trial road race around the Peel circuit and the closing
ceremony featuring a circuit of the Villa Marina, was the natural
choice for our support.
Sport is such a big feature of life in the Isle of Man, and hosting
the 2001 Island Games will reinforce our reputation as an Island
that is able to offer the finest competitive venues.
Good luck to all competitors in the 2001 Island Games!
